Take Kiwi Engineering to Bed with F&P

A lot of CPAP patients know all about Respironics and ResMed when it comes to CPAP device manufacturers, but there is at least one more major manufacturer out there - Fisher & Paykel Healthcare (pronounced pie-kull).

Fisher & Paykel AppliancesIn New Zealand, Fisher & Paykel is a household name for kitchen appliances, especially dishwashers and the DishDrawer dishwasher.  Starting in the 1930s, F&P now has manufacturing sites located in Auckland, New Zealand; Borso del Grappa (TV), Italy; Rayong, Thailand and Reynosa, Mexico. F&P also manufactures refrigerators, ovens, stove tops, microwaves, and washing machines and dryers.  F&P is a giant in the field, innovative, and is becoming much more known in the United States, too.

Fisher & Paykel HealthcareFisher & Paykel entered the respiratory care market in 1971 with the development of a unique respiratory humidifier system for use in critical care. F&P now offers a broad range of products and systems for use in respiratory and acute care and the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).  From the F&P Healthcare website:

Our headquarters and research facilities are based in New Zealand, with manufacturing facilities located in New Zealand and Mexico. In total, our products are sold in more than 120 countries either directly by our offices or through distributors and OEMs. We support our customers with sales and marketing operations located in 30 countries.

We offer continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy products and systems for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, a disorder which disrupts a person's breathing during sleep.

Our products include flow generators, chambers, masks and other accessories. Our humidifier products utilize our core expertise in heated humidification and are designed to alleviate the side effects often associated with CPAP therapy.

Let's explore some of the current product line. TheCPAPPeople.com carries most of the F&P Healthcare products for CPAP Therapy.

ICON Series CPAP Machines

The new flagship in the fleet.  The F&P ICON series is a small and compact CPAP machine with built-in humidifer that has features no other manufacturer has yet to produce.  For instance, it is the first to have a built-in alarm clock on the display.  Sure, this is no major feat, but it can save space on your bedside table by not needing a separate alarm clock.  The clock can be even be programmed to play your own MP3 files by using the SmartStick Studio software.

The ICON is available in three different configurations.  The ICON NOVO is a basic fixed-pressure CPAP machine with few bells and whistles.  The ICON PREMO integrates compliance recording, automatic leak adjustment, and auto-altitude adjustment.  The ICON AUTO is an auto-titrating CPAP that includes all the feaures of the PREMO but also includes SensAwake pressure relief and advanced data recording.  All three configurations include a heated humidifier, and all three can use F&P's ThermoSmart heated tubing (sold in separate packages, or separately).  ThermoSmart heated tubing helps to keep the delivered air at constant temperature all the way to the mask, reducing condensation or rain-out.  The ICON can keep pace with any other CPAP machine on the market and patients love it for the ease of use and size.  It is also very quiet when in use -- you can hardly tell it is on!  The ICON carries a 2-year warranty.

F&P Oracle Oral CPAP Mask

A while back on the blog, we dedicated an article to the Oracle - "Mouth Breather? Try The Oracle."  The point of the article was to express that F&P had a mask like no other on the market.  This is the only oral-only mask in the world.  Another first from F&P.

The unique Oracle Oral CPAP Mask delivers pressure through the mouth rather than the nose. Clinically proven to function as effectively as a nasal mask, the Oracle Oral CPAP Mask is a perfect solution for mouth breathers and patients with chronic nasal obstruction. The Oracle is easy to use and easy to seal. With nothing covering the field of vision, the Oracle Oral Mask provides freedom of movement. It is an Out-of-Box Solution fully assembled and ready for use.

FlexiFit Nasal CPAP Masks

The FlexiFit CPAP masks from F&P are VERY popular.  You may know them by their familiar numbers, the FlexiFit 405, FlexiFit 406, and FlexiFit 407.  The FlexiFit series is essentially one mask with multiple sizes.  The great thing about the 405 is that it comes with two different cushion sizes (small and large), aimed to fit most people.  The 406 is a petite version and the 407 is the standard (medium) size.  Most patients find comfort in one of the 405 cushions.

The FlexiFit series includes a foam insert with a silicone flap.  Also, the use of a Glider on the front of the mask makes the headgear attachment easier and more flexible.

This is just a sample of the product line.  Other items include the HC431, HC432 and Forma Full Face Masks, the Opus Nasal Interface Mask, and the Zest Nasal Mask.  We will cover these products in later articles.  Until then, click to see the entire product line of Fisher & Paykel CPAP Therapy devices available at TheCPAPPeople.com.  Many of the products have associated videos, downloadable resources, and customer reviews to make sure you are a well informed CPAP user.
